
Partnering with InvestDSM on the “Twins” Renovation

When we had the opportunity to bid on renovating two run-down properties on the corner of 24th Street and Drake Park Avenue we had to take a look.
While starting out in the 1890’s as beautiful single-family Victorian homes, the years had not been kind to 1103 and 1107 24th Street. A sequence of owners had allowed them to fall into disrepair; ultimately being converted into soulless multiple rental units.
But seeing the potential, we couldn’t pass on the project. Leveraging financing from Invest DSM, our team undertook a complete architectural redesign and gut renovation of both houses. Our goal was to create living spaces that honor the original architectural details while incorporating contemporary design principles, construction techniques, appliances, and technology.
The results are stunning. Each home showcases its Victorian heritage – high ceilings, intricate woodwork, and expansive rooms – while offering the comfort and convenience of modern living. The original charm has been meticulously restored and enhanced with open floor plans, updated kitchens and bathrooms, and state-of-the-art features. Our attention to detail is evident in every element, from the restored woodwork to the thoughtfully chosen fixtures and finishes.
Both homes are now occupied by their new owners, who are enjoying the unique blend of classic elegance and modern luxury. We are proud of the transformation of these two Victorians and the positive impact they have on the broader Drake neighborhood.
Additional Benefits
The “Twins” renovations would not have been possible without the financing provied by Invest DSM’s Single Family Developer Program. In addition, we obtained approval for both houses in the City of Des Moines Tax Abatement Program, giving the new owners a fantastic property tax break for a full 10 years.
